Plusieurs exploitations, parfois centenaires, ont été totalement ou partiellement détruites. D’autres sont toujours couvertes d’un épais nuage de fumée.

Mac Community comes together to bake pies

Over the summer a group of Mac staff members got together to kick around ideas for an activity that would bring the Macdonald community together at the start of the school year and would tie to Macdonald’s motto “Mastery for Service.” Once the seed was planted, it didn’t take long for the theme to emerge - #MacShares. Tree removal near the John Abbott College Memorial Field

Some of you may have noticed trees being felled near the John Abbott College Memorial Field.  While we never want to cut trees down, nature sometimes leaves us no choice.  Four of the trees being taken down this week are rotten oak trees, which pose a safety hazard, and another four are ash trees infected with the emerald ash borer that has been wreaking havoc on Montreal Island in recent years.  All the trees being removed are being replaced.

CFI grants to boost research projects

The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, announced a total investment of $52 million from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund for 220 new infrastructure projects nationally. Among the 51 universities across the country with funded projects, McGill leads the pack with an impressive number — 23 projects totaling $4.2 million — in this latest round of the funding competition.

OBIT: Former McGillian and NHL administrator Bryan Murray was 74

It is with sadness that we note the passing of Bryan Murray, DipEd(PE)'64, recipient of the 2016 Macdonald Distinguished Alumni Award.

"A native of Shawville, Que., Murray was a student-athlete at McGill University's Macdonald College campus in the 1960s and went on to develop his coaching and administrative skills by guiding the Macdonald Aggies football team and the Macdonald Clansmen hockey squad while serving four years as director of athletics."

Every day after work, David Bernard-Perron, BSc(AgEnvSc)’12, MSc’15, heads out for a few laps “down the hill” on his mountain bike.

The hill in question is majestic Whistler Mountain, a short distance from his job as head agrologist at Whistler Medical Marijuana Corporation.

Professor Emerita receives Fulbright Specialist Grant

Professor Emerita Harriet Kuhnlein (School of Human Nutrition) received a 2017 Fulbright Specialist Grant that was undertaken with Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand.  The award was in the category of Public/Global Health for a term of 5 weeks during February and March, 2017.  The grant was administered through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, United States Department of State with the cooperation of World Learning. 

In Memory - Terry A. Wheeler

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Terry Wheeler, Associate Professor in the Department of Natural Resource Sciences.

Professor Wheeler was an expert in entomology and Director of the Lyman Entomological Museum. He had been a faculty member since January 1, 1995.

He lost his battle with cancer which he had taken in stride and fought with amazing optimism. Professor Wheeler will be terribly missed.
