The new Bachelor of Global Engineering is jointly offered by McGill University (Canada) and CentraleSupélec (France). It consists of a four-year undergraduate program that strives to train tomorrow’s “global” engineers. Graduates of this program will develop a broad base of knowledge and skills, taking into account multicultural, multinational, and sustainability considerations. Hybrid by design, the program borrows from the best of the European and Northern American engineering educational traditions and paves the way for a new paradigm, which aims to strike a new balance between breadth of knowledge and depth of specialization.
During the first two common years of study in France at CentraleSupélec, students will acquire a solid foundation in:
- mathematics
- all three basic sciences (i.e. biology, chemistry and physics)
- computer science
In addition, students will gain complementary training / courses in:
- a second (or third) language (if students are already fluent in English and French)
- the humanities and social sciences
- business / management
- physical education
In the final two years at McGill, students specialize in one of 9 streams (Breadth, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Entrepreneurial, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering).

Note about accreditation
Please note that the four-year Bachelor of Global Engineering is not equivalent to the diplôme d'ingénieur in France, which requires five years of university study beyond the French baccalauréat (high-school diploma). Moreover, it is currently not accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) because the CEAB requires all new undergraduate engineering programs to graduate at least one cohort before they can apply for CEAB accreditation. In addition, the current CEAB accreditation processes are not designed to evaluate international joint programs such as the Bachelor of Global Engineering.
The CEAB is in the process of re-evaluating its accreditation criteria and procedures. If the updated regulations allow for the accreditation of international joint programs, McGill University will submit an application for accreditation of the Bachelor of Global Engineering program to the CEAB in due course. However, until the Bachelor of Global Engineering program is accredited by the CEAB, graduates of the program who wish to apply for admission to the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (or any other provincial regulatory body) may have their academic record assessed by the regulatory body. This process is similar to that undertaken by holders of engineering degrees obtained outside Canada. Lastly, we note that McGill University is currently working with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec to streamline this process.;
Veuillez noter que le baccalauréat en ingénierie globale, d'une durée de quatre ans, n'est pas équivalent au diplôme d'ingénieur en France, qui requiert cinq années d'études universitaire saprès l’obtention du baccalauréat français. En outre, il n'est actuellement pas agréé par le Bureau canadien d’agrément des programmes de génie (BCAPG), et ce pour deux raisons principales. La première est que les règlements du BCAPG stipulent que tout nouveau programme d'ingénierie de premier cycle doit diplômer au moins une cohorte avant de pouvoir demander l’agrément du BCAPG. La deuxième raison est que les processus d’agrément actuels du BCAPG ne sont pas conçus pour évaluer des programmes internationaux conjoints tels que le baccalauréat en ingénierie globale.
Le BCAPG a cependant entrepris un processus d’évaluation de ses critères et procédures d’agrément, qui pourraient être modernisés. Si les règlements mis à jour permettent l'agrément de programmes internationaux conjoints, l'Université McGill soumettra une demande d’agrément pour le programme de baccalauréat en ingénierie globale au BCAPG en temps opportun. Néanmoins, tant que le programme de baccalauréat en ingénierie globale n'est pas agréé par le BCAPG, les diplômés du programme qui souhaitent faire une demande d'admission à l'Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (ou à tout autre organisme de réglementation provincial) peuvent faire évaluer leur dossier académique par l'organisme de réglementation. Ce processus est similaire à celui entrepris par les détenteurs de diplômes d'ingénierie obtenus à l'extérieur du Canada. En outre, l'Université McGill travaille actuellement avec l'Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec pour simplifier ce processus.
