SP0085: Furniture Asset and Management

Status: CANCELLED Spring/Summer 2012

The Furniture Asset and Management Project seeks to develop a website to facilitate the redistribution of used furniture within the McGill community. The idea behind the endeavour is to advertise and promote these goods so that they may be seen and be reallocated (at no cost) within Departments/Units when they become surplus to their original owners.  This would allow for a significant increase in the life expectancy of the goods in addition to answering more effectively the needs of the McGill community, and reduced expenses for the purchase of new assets. Thus far, there is no tool allowing for these goods to be advertised and this not only contributes to additional unnecessary expenses but to more crowded workspaces and to irresponsible disposal measures. Additionally, the program we are proposing will significantly improve the management of used furniture while, at the same time, allows the University to quickly assess the supply and demand of a specific item.
