Drop-in Sessions
Do you have questions about your research ethics application? We encourage researchers to consult with the Research Ethics Office, particularly for studies involving distinct communities or multiple partners and jurisdictions, such as Indigenous research and community-based participatory or action research.
Researchers are welcome to attend our drop-in sessions without an appointment.
When: Every Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Where: James Administration Building, Room 325
If you are unable to attend during drop-in hours, you may arrange a consultation outside of these times. Consultations can be held either virtually or in person.

Tutorials
TCPS: CORE-2022 (Course on Research Ethics)
The TCPS: CORE-2022 (Course on Research Ethics) online tutorial is available to faculty, staff, students, and Research Ethics Board (REB) members.
The online tutorial CORE-2022 (Course on Research Ethics) is an introduction to the TCPS for the research community. It focuses on the TCPS ethics guidance that is applicable to all research involving human participants, regardless of discipline or methodology.
The revised CORE-2022 tutorial consists of nine modules and a knowledge consolidation exercise. It is designed to help members of the research community understand and apply the ethical principles and guidance outlined in TCPS 2 when conducting research involving human participants.
All Principal Investigators (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and staff) must complete the CORE-2022 online tutorial before submitting an application for Research Ethics Board (REB) review. Supervisors of student applicants are also required to complete the tutorial prior to the submission of an application. While completion of the tutorial is not mandatory for all study team members, it is strongly encouraged. Individuals who have completed an earlier version of the CORE tutorial are not required to complete the revised CORE-2022 version. However, they are encouraged to review the updated content to familiarize themselves with the latest guidance and enhancements.
Quebec Ministry of Health & Social Services (MSSS) Tutorial in Research Ethics
The Quebec MSSS Tutorial in Research Ethics online tutorial is available to faculty, staff, students, and Research Ethics Board (REB) members.
The tutorial consists of three levels, each designed to support the ethical conduct of research and provide foundational knowledge in research ethics.
- Level 1 Basic Training introduces the basic scientific and ethical knowledge that underlie research, the relevant normative texts and sound management of ethical review. This level also provides an overall review of the various participants (institutions, REB members, administrators, government) who are involved research ethics review for the purpose of ensuring the protection of research participants and promoting ethical conduct that demonstrates respect for individuals.
- Level 2 Specific Training is divided into two modules to meet the respective needs of REB support staff and members.
- Level 3 Specific Themes is designed for everyone. Its purpose is to explore different themes in greater depth and to provide more extensive knowledge of the issues raised in emerging research activities. Level 3 seeks to stimulate critical reflection through application of the ethical principles pertaining to scientific research, interpretation and application of normative texts, and use of the tools presented in the preceding levels. Level 3 therefore complements the basic training of levels 1 and 2 by enabling users to enhance and update their knowledge on specific themes, as well as to improve the skills they need to make ethical decisions.
