On behalf of Professors Elizabeth Wood and Naomi Nichols, Department of Integrated Studies in Education:
It is with great pleasure that we announce a new program in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education, our B.A. (Education in Global Contexts).
The new program responds to a growing need to prepare professionals to work in a broad range of educational contexts, beyond the traditional classroom. Our generous liberal-arts approach to education provides students with foundational knowledge in 21st century education areas such as the following:
- Digital and arts-based approaches to education and research,
- Critical issues and perspectives in education,
- Leadership and social change,
- Ethics and epistemology,
- Development and well-being, and
- Research and evaluation in educational contexts.
In addition to the dynamic program of academic study, the B.A. (Education in Global Contexts) also offers an internship, ensuring that our students obtain practical field experience in a local or international organization. The internship experience is connected to course work through a series of research inquiry courses. The internship and inquiry courses are designed to ensure critical reflexivity and the integration of theory and practice.
We are excited about this new program and the opportunities it will provide for our students. Although the B.A. (Education in Global Contexts) is awaiting Ministry approval at this time, we anticipate our first cohort of students in September, 2017. In the meantime, we encourage you to check out the appropriate DISE webpage to learn more about it.
We extend a sincere thank you to all of those from DISE, ECP, and KPE who worked hard on the design and development of this initiative over the past several years. We also extend our gratitude to the DISE and Faculty of Education staff for their enthusiasm and expertise in creating these communication materials in advance of a larger marketing campaign by the Faculty. We look forward to your contributions in the coming years in ensuring that this exciting new B.A. can flourish.
Naomi Nichols, Program Director, B.A. (Education in Global Contexts)
