New course proposals

Please submit a new course proposal form to propose a new course (at McGill or with/by another institution).

Guidelines and forms

How do new courses impact a program?

  • New course in a new program: Must receive approval prior to, or at the same time as the new program
  • Required course: If revisions to a program are required (i.e., deletion of a required course, increase in required credits, etc.), a program revision form will be required along with the course proposal form.
  • Complementary course: Does not require a separate program revision form. Simply include a notation in the Course proposal form and the consultation report that this course is complementary in a program (include complete program name).

Approval timeline

New courses take approximately 2 - 4 months to be approved. teaching_programs.provost [at] mcgill.ca (Contact us) for status updates.
