What can we learn from seeing our colleagues’ teaching in action? Open Classrooms Week is an opportunity for instructors to visit each other’s classes to observe different teaching practices, bring fresh energy to their own classrooms, and foster a sense of community and openness around teaching.

Key details

  • When: September 21 - 25
  • Format: In-person classroom visits, 60 – 90 minutes
  • Who can participate: Instructors from the Faculty of Arts and Desautels Faculty of Management
  • Wrap-up celebration: September 25 (details TBD)

What to expect

During the week, instructors across the Faculty of Arts and Desautels Faculty of Management will voluntarily open their classes to peers. Colleagues can attend as a guest observer in these “open classes” to observe a range of teaching approaches in different learning environments.

Open Classrooms Week is not a peer evaluation process; it’s an opportunity to exchange, learn, and reflect with colleagues.

How it works

  • A list of open classes will be available in mid-August.
  • Instructors from the Faculty of Arts and Desautels Faculty of Management can register for one or more open classes (capacity may vary, depending on the type of class).
  • If an open class reaches capacity, a waiting list will be available.
  • Attendees are expected to remain for the full (60 – 90 minute) class, as it may be disruptive to have visitors come and go.
  • Participants will also be invited to join a wrap-up celebration at the end of the week, to reflect on their observations, share experiences, and deepen connections with colleagues.

Participants will leave with:

  • Real examples of how others design activities, structure discussions, or integrate learning technologies.
  • Insights on how to engage students, provide feedback, or manage the learning environment.
  • A sense of community and pedagogical sharing.
