Student Workshops

Learn more about sustainability as a concept, McGill’s sustainability commitments, and how you can get involved by participating in one of the Office of Sustainability’s workshops, offered in partnership with SKILLS21

Students who participate in two or more workshops in a semester will receive recognition on their co-curricular record. Students must register for the workshop by signing into myInvolvement.

The Office of Sustainability also offers workshops for faculty and staff.

Sustainability at McGill 101

Thursday September 28, 2023 from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

This workshop offers an overview of sustainability at McGill. During the session, students will learn how they can participate in the sustainability movement on campus and will be introduced to sustainability programs, events, and resources that are available to them.

McGill's Climate & Sustainability Strategy 2020-2025

This session will dive into McGill’s three long-term targets, as well short-term goals set to be achieved in the next five years. Participants will also learn about the consultation process that informed the content of the strategy, as well as key monitoring and implementation tools.

Have you ever had questions about how waste is managed at McGill? This one-hour training will inform participants of how campus waste streams work, how to properly sort materials, and how this may differ from your home recycling. Participants will leave with best practices and a better understanding of McGill’s waste reduction strategy.

This one-hour workshop is for those interested in learning about the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will help participants identify and describe the SDGs, explain their significance, and understand implementation opportunities and challenges, particularly in reporting on them. Finally, the workshop will inform participants on how they can get more involved in SDG activities on campus and beyond.

Climate Action at McGill

This workshop gives an overview of the initiatives that McGill is taking to address climate-related issues. It will review the context for undertaking such actions, present the ways in which greenhouse gas emissions are being recorded, highlight the main action areas that are being focused on to reduce emissions, and showcase the different ways students can get involved in helping the University achieve its carbon footprint reduction ambition.
