The McGill School of Information Studies Academic Practicum Coordinator coordinates and delivers the Master of Information Studies Practicum program.
Academic Practicum Coordinator roles & responsibilities
- Recruits sites to offer placements in the program.
- Works with and assists practicum agencies as needed to establish practicum descriptions for students.
- Holds an annual fall-term Practicum Information Session for students.
- Reviews all student applications, performs initial screening, and facilitates the interview and selection process.
- Reviews all proposed placements, collaborating with supervisor and student to make changes to the Learning and Work Plan prior to placement approval, as needed.
- Communicates with either party throughout the duration of the placement (if required) and promotes a satisfactory working relationship between the student, practicum site, and the MISt program.
- Manages the myCourses course environment, provides instructional support, and assesses coursework.
- Tracks placement progress through methods such as supervisor evaluations and reflective assignments.
- Works with the placement supervisor and the student in an advisory capacity if practicum work performance or assignments do not warrant a passing grade, intervening through a Practicum Intervention, if and as required.
- Assigns a pass/fail (credit/no credit) grade for the program.
- Seeks and integrates feedback from students and supervisors to improve the Practicum program.
- Updates and manages program and instructional information; prepares reports for the School as needed.
