Review Timelines

The review timelines provided below are estimates only and may vary depending on the current volume of submissions and the workload of the REB Office.

Researchers are encouraged to consult the REB templates and guidelines page.

Before an application is forwarded for ethics review, the REB Office conducts a pre-review to ensure that all required information and supporting documents have been provided. Applications that are incomplete, unclear, or missing required materials will be returned to the applicant for pre-review modifications. Any modifications requested during this pre-review process will extend the overall review timeline, as the application cannot proceed to ethics review until the submission is deemed complete.

The submission deadlines apply to full board initial submissions and amendments.

• Review feedback for full board submissions is typically provided within two weeks of the meeting date.

Minimal risk initial submissions and amendments can be submitted on an ongoing basis and are eligible for delegated review.

• Review feedback for minimal risk initial applications is typically provided within 4 to 6 weeks after a complete application has been sent out for review.

• Review feedback for amendments is typically provided within 1 to 2 weeks after a complete application has been sent out for review.

Meeting Schedule

The FMHS REB typically meets on the second Monday of each month.

Summer Submissions

Please note that the FMHS REB does not meet in July. Submissions can be made at any time in June and July. Please allow additional time for review due to limited reviewer availability during the summer months.
