SSHRC Insight Development Grants Information Session

The Office of Sponsored Research is pleased to invite McGill researchers and administrators to an information session on the upcoming

SSHRC Insight Development Grants competition.

 

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013

2:30 pm – 4:30 pm

James Administration Building, Room 301

 


The workshop will include:

 

  • an introduction by Associate Vice-Principal, Research & International Relations, Professor Sarah Stroud;

 

  • a presentation about the requirements of the Insight Development Grants by Grants Officer Melissa Li;

 

  • presentations by two McGill researchers with experience as committee members and/or grant awardees in the Insight Development Grants competition. They will provide potential applicants with insider information about the peer-review system and/or strategies for preparing a successful proposal:

Ø Professor Carrie Rentschler (Institute for Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies, IDG committee member) and

Ø Professor Nathan Hall (Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, IDG awardee)

 

  • a question and answer period where participants will be encouraged to pose any questions that they may have about this funding opportunity.

The internal guide prepared by the Office of Sponsored Research will be distributed at the workshop.

The workshop may be cancelled if attendance is not sufficient.

 

 

Background:

Insight Development Grants support research in its initial stages for up to two years (with an automatic extension period for one year) for emerging and established scholars in the social sciences and humanities. The grants enable the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. The maximum value of an Insight Development Grant is $75,000. A minimum budget of $7,000 in at least one of the years is required. For the current competition, at least 50% of funds will be reserved for applications from emerging scholars.
