Incoming U1
To note:
For your 120 credit (ie. 4yr) B.A., you're U1 if you are commencing in the B.A. with 24 or more credits of advanced standing (see below):
- You are exempt from the Arts Foundation Program.
- You are eligible to choose your Major/Minor/Honours programs when registering for your first semester
- For new students as of Fall 2025:
- The maximum permissible total aggregate number of pre-admission advanced standing credits to be accorded to a non-CEGEP and non-University Transfer student – at the time of admission or interfaculty transfer to an Arts degree - is limited to 30cr, and in adherence to the Faculty of Arts Online Education policy. Note that credits earned via intermediary study abroad organizations or companies will not be approved for advanced standing nor for transfer credit.
- You must complete at least one Faculty of Arts program - as part of your Multi-Track, Honours or Joint-Honours requirements - to graduate with a B.A. degree.
- Consult with your program/departmental advisors to confirm whether you are taking the right introductory courses for your academic programs.
Typical scenarios:
- You're entering with 30 credits of advanced standing from:
- You're entering with at least 24 credits of advanced standing based on your examination results from:
- You've completed university courses at another institution prior to entering McGill, and have received advanced standing for your degree.
- As part of the Admissions process, you must submit transcripts from all previous studies.
- Eligible advanced standing credits will be recorded on your transcript as general (TRNS XXX) transfer credit.
