Josephine Nalbantoglu, PhD
Josephine Nalbantoglu s’intéresse à la génétique moléculaire de la maladie d’Alzheimer, à la régulation de l’expression génique dans le système nerveux et à la thérapie génique pour les tumeurs au cerveau. Pour l’étude du rôle du métabolisme et du dépôt de l’amyloïde dans la maladie d’Alzheimer, son laboratoire a généré des souris transgéniques qui expriment un fragment du précurseur du peptide ß-amyloïde humain (APP). Les souris manifestent des signes de lésion tissulaire et de déficits comportementaux qui sont analogues aux changements survenant dans la maladie d’Alzheimer. Elle a aussi étudié le contrôle de l’expression génique de l’APP en caractérisant d’importantes séquences régulatrices de gènes et les protéines qui s’y lient. Elle collabore avec le DrGeorge Karpati à la thérapie génique à médiation par adénovirus de gliomes et de médulloblastomes expérimentaux au moyen de gènes suppresseurs de tumeur et de gènes suicides.
