Carlos Gomez-Garibello

CARLOS GOMEZ-GARIBELLO, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Health Sciences Education and Associate Member of the Department of Surgery at McGill University. He obtained his doctoral degree in Educational Psychology. His research interests include the development of workplace-based assessment methods at the postgraduate level, the creation of tests aimed to assess clinical knowledge and judgment, and the measurement of the integration of clinical skills and judgment in the context of surgery. Professor Gomez-Garibello’s interest also extends to the application of quantitative methods (statistics and psychometrics) in educational practice and research. Currently, Professor Gomez-Garibello serves as Faculty Lead for Assessment in Postgraduate Medical Education at McGill University, where he provides crucial support to residency programs in advancing assessment methods. His work is informed by the most respected principles and conceptual frameworks in education. He also serves as co-chair of the Surgical Education Group within the Department of Surgery at McGill University.
