If you have or adopt a child
Supplemental health
You must switch from single to family coverage, unless your child is covered under your spouse's group health plan.
If your child is covered under your spouse's group health plan, he/she may be added to your plan upon involuntarily loss of coverage under your spouse's group health plan within 60 days of their loss of coverage . Written proof of this loss of coverage will be required.
Dental
You may switch from single to family coverage within:
- 60 days of the birth or adoption of your child, or
- 60 days of the child's third birthday, or
- 60 days of ceasing to be covered under another dental insurance plan.
Should you miss the 60-day window, your child will be registered for coverage under the McGill Dental Plan effective January 1st of the year immediately following the year in which the life event occurred.
Life insurance
Your coverage will remain unchanged.
Note: We recommend that you review your beneficiaries and the amount of Optional Life Insurance you require.
If your child marries, assumes full-time employment or turns 21 (26 if a full-time student)
