The McGill-UAE Fellowships were created through a landmark gift from the Crown Prince Court of the United Arab Emirates. Now the McGill-United Arab Emirates partnership will include more faculties and units.

Aug, 2017 – His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received Alia Al Ameri and Abdul Rahman Al Musa'abi, recipients of the McGill-UAE Fellowship in Science and Engineering.

Sept, 2018 – The scholars meet with the Deans of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies, Engineering, and Science and the UAE Program Manager, as well as Rania Haj Chahine and Mohamed Al Shamsi from the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Ottawa.

McGill-UAE Fellowships 

The ABU DHABI CROWN PRINCE COURT, under the direction of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and McGill University, have established the McGill-UAE Fellowships.

Programs:

McGill-UAE Graduate Studies Fellowships and McGill-UAE Postdoctoral STEM Fellowship

These fellowships enhance existing efforts to support new exceptional Master's and PhD students and Postdoctoral fellows by encouraging leaders from the UAE to pursue their higher education at McGill University, one of the top-ranked universities in the world.

  • Earn your advanced degree from McGill University, one of the top universities in the world, with tuition, travel and living costs paid by the fellowship program.
  • Your McGill degree will be recognized around the globe; it offers unparalleled access to further education and opens doors to employment opportunities within the UAE and elsewhere.
  • You are not required to fulfill any conditions once you have completed your studies.
  • Under the terms of the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program you may remain in Canada for up to three years after graduating to gain valuable Canadian work experience. 

McGill-UAE Graduate Studies Fellowships

These fellowships are among the most generous at McGill and are awarded to exceptional Master’s and PhD students from the UAE so that they can pursue advanced studies in any eligible discipline at McGill University.

Value & Duration

  • Each McGill-UAE fellow will receive an ample amount each year (up to $60,000) to cover tuition and living expenses. This amount is renewable, to allow for up to two years for Master’s students, and up to 4 years for PhD candidates.
  • There will be additional support (up to $18,000) to participate in a prestigious internship in Canada or abroad.

Eligibility

  • Open to all UAE nationals (citizens) – UAE residents may also be considered
  • Up to two Fellowships will be offered to eligible candidates each academic year
  • The following programs are eligible:
    • Faculty of Science
    • Faculty of Engineering
    • Faculty of Arts (only Economics)
    • Faculty of Medicine
    • Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences

All UAE applicants who are offered admission to the university will automatically be considered for the fellowship


McGill-UAE Postdoctoral STEM Fellowship

This fellowship is among the most generous at McGill and is awarded to one exceptional Postdoctoral student from the UAE so that student can pursue advanced studies in any eligible discipline offered at McGill University.

Value & Duration

  • McGill-UAE fellow will receive an ample amount each year (up to $60,000 plus benefits) to cover tuition and living expenses.
  • This amount is non-renewable, to allow for up to two years for Postdoctoral candidates.

Note: Amounts are in Canadian dollars

Eligibility

  • Open to all UAE nationals (citizens) – UAE residents may also be considered
  • Must be from outside McGill University or have commenced their postdoctoral studies at the University no more than 12 months prior to the start date of the award
  • Must have received their PhD less than 3 years before the start date of the award
  • Must be registered as postdoctoral at McGill University by the start date of the award
  • Cannot currently hold another fellowship or scholarship, regardless of source

McGill—UAE Summer 2020 Undergraduate Research Awards

Are you an upper-level undergraduate student with excellent grades from the UAE? Are you interested in pursuing cutting-edge research at one of the world’s top 100 universities? The Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Science at McGill University offer 9-week research traineeships to a limited number of UAE students like you to work closely with a McGill professor on one of their research projects in Summer 2020.

A generous agreement between the Crown Prince Court (UAE) and McGill University will support each selected student with CAD$10,000. Placement as a research trainee at McGill can be a stepping stone on the path to your research career – particularly if you are interested in pursuing graduate studies at McGill.
