The 2024-25 academic year marks the inauguration on the Vaudreuil-Soulanges U-FMG!
With the support of Châteauguay's Jardins-Roussillon U-FMG and the McGill Department of Family Medicine’s Postgraduate Division, our team is proud and excited to launch this U-FMG and welcome its first residents!
We sincerely hope that our work environment will provide learners with a sense of belonging and will create an atmosphere conducive to both professional development and comprehensive patient care characterized by continuity, serenity, and organizational support.
The Vaudreuil-Soulanges U-FMG is growing rapidly and currently serves close to 13 000 patients. Supported by a multidisciplinary team of 17 supervising physicians, specialized nurse practitioners, nurse clinicians, licensed practical nurses (LPNs), a pharmacist and social workers, U-FMG residents work in a collaborative environment where teamwork is enjoyable, and where progressive thinking and innovative projects are the order of the day. The U-FMG team promotes values such as listening, respect, openness, and integrity.
Highlights
The Vaudreuil-Soulanges U-FMG offers a diversified family medicine practice including patient intake and follow-up, walk-ins, home care or intensive care at home (SIAD), palliative care, youth clinic and youth mental health, and much more. Ours is an interesting, stimulating work environment that promotes interprofessional collaboration.
Facilities and Resources
Facilities: Our U-FMG includes two sites: the main one in Vaudreuil-Dorion and the second in the rural municipality of St-Polycarpe, 20 minutes away. The Vaudreuil site is currently undergoing renovations to expand and improve its facilities. By the end of 2025, the U-FMG will benefit from some sixty offices, almost half of which will be medical offices. It will also benefit from several collaborative spaces for feedback and teamwork, as well as a large meeting room and a room dedicated to resident teaching.
On a larger scale, the CISSS de la Montérégie-Ouest offers residents many facilities:
- 4 hospitals (1 of which is under construction)
- 12 CLSCs
- 13 CHSLDs (1 run by the Mohawk Council)
- 1 seniors' home
- 1 outpatient mental health clinic
- 2 outpatient mental health centres
- 1 ambulatory health centre
- 2 intensive functional rehabilitation units (URFI)
- 3 physical disability rehabilitation centres
Technology and Resources: U-FMG residents work with the MYLE Electronic Medical Record in their practice. Supervision is ensured by a system of cameras, installed in all the medical offices in which learners work. Eventually, the meeting room and resident training room will also be equipped with smart boards.
Teaching
Training programs offered
Our site offers a number of training programs, including the teaching of medical students (whom we host each month) as well as other learners, such as specialized nurse practitioners (IPSPLs) and social workers. These programs are designed to encourage teaching and afford learners opportunities to provide clinical supervision.
With respect to family medicine residency training, the U-FMG offers a horizontal training program shared between two sites (Vaudreuil-Dorion and St-Polycarpe, the latter of which is a rural setting). Residents thus receive exposure to a diverse clientele.
The U-FMG opened its doors in 2024, starting with 2 first-year residents (R1s). Each year, capacity will increase to ultimately welcome 18 residents (9 R1s and 9 R2s).
Types of learning experiences
-Undergraduate training
Our clerkship program allows students to discover a variety of experiences in family medicine. Clerks are assigned to different teaching physicians, and work closely with other team members to provide care and promote patient health and well-being. They work with patients in the U-FMG’s various activity sectors, providing urgent care, follow-ups, periodic medical evaluations, home care, intensive home care, palliative care, and women's health. Training in long-term care facilities and a super clinic is also available.

Learner Testimonials
Medical student testimonials:
» Albert Shalmiev
- “For Vaudreuil being a new teaching site, I was very impressed with the organization of the rotation and willingness to teach, as well as the technologies used for teaching. As someone interested in acute care and having heard about the Harwood walk-in clinic, I wish I had more exposure to urgent care clinics as I did not have any during my time. I was incredibly impressed by the organization of the soins à domicile program and the palliative care home in Hudson. Overall, I am looking forward to seeing how the GMF continues to grow.” Lauren Perlman
