University Health and Safety Committees

In response to the ever-changing needs of the University, the structure of safety committees was subjected to a review and consultation process.

The new approach and configuration reflects the specific needs and the diversity of the University, and recognizes that the types of hazards involved in laboratory operations are distinct from those of other University sectors. This has resulted in the harmonization of committees concerned with laboratory safety into the University Laboratory Safety Committee (ULSC).

The new configuration also reflects the need for a broad-based committee in which the various employee and student groups can jointly address the diverse issues associated with health and safety in a campus environment, thus the need to create the University Health and Safety Committee (UHSC).

Finally, a third committee was formed to address the safety issues in all McGill University Facilities, called the Facilities and Operations Safety Committee (FOSC).
