Welcome to the McGill SCS Professional Development Certificate in Project Management. For more than 30 years, our program has earned a solid reputation in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and beyond.

This program is designed to guide you in becoming a skilled and dynamic project manager. It provides a comprehensive overview of project management tools, techniques, concepts, and methodologies, but more importantly, it offers hands-on experience with projects of various types and scopes. You will learn to apply a range of methodologies, from predictive to agile, and understand the contexts in which each approach is more suitable.

One of the unique features of this program is that it prepares you for more than planning and managing projects. You will also gain valuable experience in handling project challenges and learn how to recover from complex situations — inevitable hurdles in any project management career. This preparation ensures you are equipped to navigate such situations with confidence and competence.

Delivery format

This program is offered online in a synchronous format.

Live online classes allow learners to have lively discussions, workshops, and networking with guest lecturers and peers. Classes are held from Monday to Thursday, with each class occurring on the same day each week, from 6 to 9 p.m. Some activities are also offered in an asynchronous format.

Required Courses (27 CEUs)

YCNG 224 Agile Project Management (6 CEUs)
A hands-on exploration of project management methodologies and best practices designed to demonstrate how to manage and deliver projects in uncertain, volatile, ambiguous, quickly evolving contexts, or any context in which agile methods could be suitable.

YCNG 238 – Predictive Project Management (8.5 CEUs)
A comprehensive exploration of predictive project management with waterfall methodology, including:  project definition and planning, project execution, control, and closure as well as tools and techniques to apply methodologies to cases.  Plans, methods, tools, and techniques comprise Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Cost Breakdown structure, scheduling and resource allocation, stakeholder expectations, communication and management, risk analysis mitigation and management, progress tracking, change management, team management, and conducting post-delivery evaluation.

YCNG 239 – AI Technologies for Project Management (5 CEUs)
An overview of the transformative influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in project management from a managerial perspective. A blend of lectures, case studies, and practical assignments, students examine technologies’ impact on projects, decision-making, and workflow optimization. Leverages the potential of AI and other technologies and navigates their ethical, legal, and strategic implications.

YCNG 240 – Strategic Project Leadership Capstone (7.5 CEUs)
An overview of project management and project portfolio management highlights complexity factors such as governance, organizational politics, and human behaviour, which are uncontrollable influences on project management. Practical tools and techniques for addressing leadership and strategic challenges from a business perspective. Knowledge and skills integration for the application of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques. Development and presentation of a complete project plan and recommendations to help a non-profit community or public sector organization achieve a specific goal.


Admission Requirements
  • You must be 18 years of age or older.

If you are between the ages of 18-21, you must have a minimum of:

  • If you are from Quebec: DCS, DEC, or 1 year of full-time university studies
  • If you are from another Canadian province: 1 year of full-time university
  • If you are 21 years of age or older, you can be admitted as a mature student.

This is an online, part-time non-credit program. International applicants are expected to pursue the program from abroad since upon admission they will not be eligible to obtain the (CAQ) and study permit necessary for studies in Quebec and in Canada.

International students residing in Canada and holding a visa that allows them to study may pursue this program for the duration of their visa. However, their immigration status cannot be changed (or renewed) on the basis of admission to this program.
