A few weeks after starting his MBA at McGill University, Mohammed Ashour, MSc’11, MBA’19 received an email announcing the Hult Prize — an annual, year-long competition that challenges university-level students to solve a pressing social issue. One of the biggest names in tech thinks the move to fully remote work is a big mistake. According to Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, everyone needs to be together to create a cohesive and productive work environment. The Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) has honoured two graduates from McGill’s International Masters for Health Leadership (IMHL) program. Dr. Judy Morris, graduating this spring, was named Emergency Physician of the Year, while Dr. François de Champlain (IMHL'21) received the Special Merit Award, recognizing him as as a leader in making Canadian Emergency Medicine what it is today.

Office workers adopted remote work on a massive scale during the pandemic, and many of them only want to return to the office on a limited basis. This was a major issue in the spring 2023 strike by the Public Service Alliance of Canada. In the union’s new contract, remote work requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. This makes an amount of sense, according to Desautels Prof. Jean-Nicolas Reyt. "Some jobs do require you to be on-site, but at the end of the day, it has to be case-by-case," Reyt told CBC News.

As chief of the Service de police de l’Agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL), Fady Dagher (EMBA’12) carried out a real revolution in the force, and he has now taken the reins of the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) as its new chief, writes McGill Alumni News. In Longueil, Dagher took the concept of “community policing” one step further by creating a “partnership police force” that works hand-in-hand with social services.
