On October 29, 2013, the Faculty of Law held a reception in the Common Room to honour the memory of Alex Konigsberg QC, BCL’63, and to also mark the launch of the Alex Konigsberg Management & Law Bursary. The Faculty of Law was privileged to welcome Mr. Konigsberg’s widow, Vivian Konigsberg, and many members of his family. Several of his friends, colleagues and former McGill Law classmates also attended.
We are thrilled to introduce the Law Inspiration NetworK (LINK) for students and alumni. Many of our alumni have asked how they can get involved in Student Life & Learning at the Faculty of Law. Similarly, our students are eager to reach out to accomplished alumni all over the world. In response, we have put together a full menu of exciting options to connect McGill Law alumni with McGill Law students.
During its graduation ceremony held on September 22, 2012, the Université de Sherbrooke granted an honorary doctoral degree to the Hon. Nicholas Kasirer, BCL’85, LLB’85, former Professor (1989-2009) and Dean (2003-2009) of the Faculty of Law of McGill University and now a Justice of Quebec’s Court of Appeal.
On 18 June 2012 at Montreal’s University Club, it was with great pride that the Faculty of Law presented two James A. Robb Awards to Me. Tina Hobday and Me. Marc Barbeau, who have both distinguished themselves at the Faculty and within the broader university community by their outstanding volunteer work.

The verdict of the 1981 Supreme Court Case of Banque Nationale v. Soucisse is known as a pillar of jurisprudence on the notion of good faith in Quebec civil law. We are proud to announce that Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg and its lawyers have made a gift of $450,000 to McGill University’s Faculty of Law by establishing an endowment fund that will provide bursaries to McGill law students allowing them to do pro bono work for a wide variety of Montréal’s community objectives.
The year 2012 marks the 60th anniversary of the McGill Law Journal as well as the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Canadian Constitution. To reflect on these milestones, the Journal’s annual lecture in early March featured one of the final drafters of the Constitution Act, Mary Dawson, BCL’66.

Professor Roderick Macdonald was awarded the Paul-André Crépeau Medal by the Canadian Bar Association, Quebec Division, at a reception held on January 12, 2012.
Given the end of the labour disruption at McGill, the Faculty of Law is happy to once again be able to offer on-site video-streaming of our Continuing Legal Education series. Streaming services will allow us to accommodate additional participants in overflow classrooms in Chancellor Day Hall on the day of each lecture.
Next March, McGill’s Faculty of Law will be hosting the White & Case Canadian National Division Qualifying Tournament. Approximately 120 lawyers, legal academics and judges will be needed to act as competition judges.
On November 30, 2011, Montreal law firm Robinson Sheppard Shapiro LLP (RSS) donated more than $230,000 to the Law Faculties of McGill University and Université de Montreal as part of an endowment. The donations were made as part of the celebration of the firm’s 90th anniversary.
David O’Brien, BCL’65, makes another substantial gift to support the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism; Elizabeth Monk, BCL’23, the first woman to win the Faculty’s Gold Medal for academic excellence and the first Quebec woman to receive a Q.C. designation, is honoured by the University Women’s Club of Montreal.
We were delighted to learn that among the Quebec 53 lawyers who were designated Lawyer of the Year 2012 by the editors of Best Lawyers, 20 are alums of McGill’s Faculty of Law.
