Creation of the Robinson Sheppard Shapiro Endowment Fund

Published: 6 December 2011

On November 30, 2011, Montreal law firm Robinson Sheppard Shapiro LLP (RSS) donated more than $230,000 to the Law Faculties of McGill University and Université de Montreal as part of an endowment. The donations were made as part of the celebration of the firm's 90th anniversary and the Fund created will assist in training the lawyers of the future.

The creation of the Robinson Sheppard Shapiro Endowment Fund will allow both faculties, where a majority of its lawyers studied, to support students wishing to participate in mooting and other academic competitions.

"Giving back to our community has always been at the heart of our firm's culture." noted Charles Flam, Managing Partner and CEO of RSS. "This gift is a testimonial of the appreciation we have for our own university educations and of our confidence in the quality of the legal education provided by these two great educational institutions," he added.

During the event, McGill Law Dean Daniel Jutras mentioned how "the generosity of this reputable firm's members is an indicator of the trusted relationship that has evolved over many years between McGill and RSS. RSS' financial support will allow the Faculty to finance student participation in a number of national mooting competitions. This is a great way for RSS to support the development of the next generation of litigators in Quebec and in Canada."
