CDSI offers week-long intensive summer camp workshops on programming, machine learning, and mathematics. The Summer Camps are free, offered to the entire McGill community across all faculties (students, faculty, and staff), and held in-person at the Downtown McGill campus.
McGill students can receive recognition on their Student Experience Record (SER) in myFuture by participating in our summer camps.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any prerequisites?
For our Math, R, and Intro to Python summer camps, there are no prerequisites. The goal of these camps is to give you a basic overview of the material, as well as the resources and the confidence to learn more. These camps are also useful for those who haven't used the material in a while and simply need a refresher.
For our Machine Learning summer camp, participants should already have some familiarity with Python programming fundamentals and have Anaconda installed.
Are the summer camps offered in hybrid format?
Unfortunately, we do not offer the summer camps in hybrid format. Students must attend in-person at the Downtown McGill campus.
Will I receive credit for completing the summer camps?
The summer camps are not for credit. Current McGill students (undergraduate and graduate) can receive the Student Experience Record (SER) for completing a summer camp.
To receive SER, students must attend at least 70% of the sessions in each camp (i.e. at least 6 out of the 8 Math summer camp sessions, and at least 7 out of the 10 sessions for all other summer camps).
Are the summer camps free?
Yes! Our summer camps are free for members of the McGill community.
Will there be an exam?
Although there will be no exams, attending a summer camp requires a serious commitment. Each session will involve a mix of lecture and hands-on practice. Remember: you cannot learn a new programming language by just watching. Just like any skill, you need to practice regularly.
Do I need to attend every session of a summer camp?
If you register for our summer camps, you are expected to attend every session, complete the assigned readings, and participate in class. If you attend at least 70% of the sessions in a camp, you will be eligible to receive Student Experience Record (SER) credit.
Who can take a summer camp?
Our summer camps are open only to members of the McGill community. This includes students, alumni, staff members, faculty members, across all faculties and departments.
I registered for a summer camp but can no longer attend. How do I cancel my registration?
When you first register, you will receive a confirmation email. A cancellation link will be included in the confirmation email that will allow you to cancel your registration at any time.
You can also contact our team directly to cancel your registration at cdsi.science [at] mcgill.ca (cdsi[dot]science[at]mcgill[dot]ca). Please write "Summer Camp - Cancellation" in the subject line for a quicker response. Because of high demand and limited space for our summer workshops, we tend to have long waiting lists. It is important to cancel your registration as soon as possible in order to give your space to the next person on the waiting list.
