Brittany O’Shea is a PhD student in Communication Studies at McGill University. Her research, supervised by Dr. Carrie Rentschler, focuses on examining the impact of gender biases in ADHD research and diagnostic criteria on women's health. She is particularly interested in how women have been disadvantaged and the alternative avenues that have emerged, such as social media, as tools to reclaim their health and influence gendered ADHD discourse.
Before starting her doctoral studies, Brittany attended Dalhousie University where she received a certificate in Disability Management Studies, a BSc (Honours), and an MA in Health Promotion. Her Honours thesis was awarded the Dr. Michael J. Ellis Award for exceptional interest and ability in research. Brittany has received several scholarships, including the Canada Graduate Scholarship Master’s Award, Research Nova Scotia Graduate Scholarship, and currently holds a Canada Graduate Scholarship Doctoral Award.
