Fabrice Labeau, Vice-President (Administration and Finance)
Professor Fabrice Labeau began his term as Vice-President (Administration and Finance) for a five-year renewable term on June 1, 2024. Prior to this, he served as Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning) from 2019 to 2024 following a one-year period as Interim Deputy Provost.
He is a Full Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, which he joined in 2000. He has held several academic administrative appointments both within the Faculty of Engineering and centrally over the last 15 years, including Acting Department Chair, Associate Dean, Acting Dean, and Co-Acting Provost. As an academic, he is also involved in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Professor Labeau has been a key player in responding to emergencies that have impacted the University. He is currently the co-lead of Horizon McGill, an initiative to restore the University’s finances. He also led the University’s management of the COVID-19 pandemic, served as the planning chief of the Emergency Operations Centre, and is a member of the Provost’s Special Task Force working to implement recommendations related to asbestos management.
A member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, Professor Labeau holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Université catholique de Louvain, as well as a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a degree of advanced studies in applied sciences, also from the Université catholique de Louvain.
