Faculty Learning Community (FLC)

A supportive space for new tenure-track instructors at McGill to engage in meaningful dialogue, share teaching practices, and build lasting professional networks.

Through regular facilitated meetings, peer learning opportunities, and targeted professional development, the FLC aims to strengthen teaching at McGill, expand our scholarly community, and contribute to a vibrant culture of learning.

“Meeting other new and more experienced professors was so helpful—not just for support, but for realizing that others also find things overwhelming. It’s the little things that built my confidence in teaching, and the tricks you only learn from those with experience.” – New McGill instructor

What is a Faculty Learning Community?

  • A Faculty Learning Community (FLC) brings instructors together to connect with each other and engage in collaborative learning, encourage reflection, and support action around a central topic or challenge.
  • FLCs are a well-established format for focusing on teaching development and supporting cultural transformation (Cox & McDonald, 2017; Petrone, 2004).
