Professor Dennis earned a PhD in Sociology and MPH in Health Behavior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was also a trainee at the Carolina Population Center. Her research broadly investigates how and why structural and social stratification processes across early portions of the life course generate inequality in health and wellbeing. She is particularly interested in uncovering the mechanisms that give rise to health inequalities across and within racial/ethnic groups. A central strand of her research investigates why Nonwhites do not consistently reap the same beneficial health returns to material resources as Whites. Another thread of Dr. Dennis’ research examines how various forms of racism differentially restrict opportunities for health and wellbeing across and within racial/ethnic groups.
