Clément Brenot is the inaugural Director of the McGill Growth Lab and an Associate Professor (research) at the Max Bell School of Public Policy at McGill University. By bridging applied research and policy advice, Clément's work helps governments in Canada and internationally achieve stronger, greener and more resilient growth.
Before joining McGill, Clément was a Senior Research Manager at the Harvard Growth Lab, where he managed economic policy research engagements in advanced and emerging economies, working closely with Professor Ricardo Hausmann and senior faculty from Harvard and partner institutions. He previously spent almost a decade at the OECD, working on policy projects in Europe, Turkey and Asia. Clément started his career with the Boston Consulting Group, serving public and private sector clients, mainly in the infrastructure and financial services industries.
His research interests center on economic growth and its drivers, with a focus on: growth diagnostics in advanced, resource-rich and middle-income economies; macroeconomic policy; economic diversification and green industrial policy; innovation, AI and robotics; place-based growth strategies; and the political economy and implementation of difficult economic reforms.
Clément has authored, co-authored or supervised more than a dozen applied research reports and policy papers, published in the Harvard Growth Lab and Center for International Development working paper series, covering growth diagnostics and diversification strategies. At the OECD, he contributed to several flagship reports and led publications on competitiveness and private sector development.
