Professor Alvarez-Cuadrado’s research in macroeconomics follows two separate lines of study. The first line attempts to understand income differences across countries with a particular focus on the roles of agriculture and changes in the sectoral composition of the economy. The second line explores the importance of interpersonal comparisons on individual choices. In particular, their impact on employment, saving, and borrowing decisions, and their consequences for income and wealth inequality.
