For requests related to the 2026-2027 academic year, this form will open on August 20, 2026, when the BCL/JD credit limit increases to 18 credits per term. Please note the Deadline for submissions will be September 2, 2026. Kindly note that responses to submissions will only be received after September 9, 2026.
Use this form to request an increase over the maximum number of allotted credits in a given semester for students registered in the BCL/JD Program at the Faculty of Law (excluding Exchange students) or to request permission to take courses beyond the BCL/JD program credit limit.
- For the purposes of the Summer term, the maximum number of credits is 14 credits.
- For the purposes of the Fall and/or Winter terms, the maximum number of credits is 18 credits.
- The BCL/JD credit limit is 105 credits, or up to 123 credits (if taking a Minor, Major, or Honours)

- This type of request is granted only in very exceptional circumstances and should not be used to ensure you have more options for credits.
- Generally, 2L students are not granted permission to exceed credits, given their time remaining in the program.
- Requests must be associated to a specific course that the student wants to add, rather than a blanket increase. If granted, you would be given permission to exceed your credits for a particular course.
