Overview
McGill University's Student Experience Record (SER) is a comprehensive tool for recording and showcasing students' experiential learning both inside and outside the classroom. Replacing the Co-Curricular Record (CCR), the SER helps students and alumni demonstrate and reflect upon their skills and experiences to support their personal, professional, and academic pursuits.
Eligibility Criteria
Common Criteria
- Learning Component: Experiences must have a learning component (with the exception of awards). Students must complete all program elements required to achieve the learning outcomes to receive recognition.
- Coordination and Validation:
- Student-led Initiatives: Must be coordinated by student organizations that are affiliated directly with a recognized student government organization, a faculty, or a McGill administrative unit.
- All Other Experiences: Must be coordinated by McGill faculty or administrative units or, in the case of eligible off-campus activities, be vetted and validated by them.

Submitting Eligible Activities for Recognition

If you are a student who participated in a SER-eligible activity that does not yet appear on your record, you should contact the coordinator for this activity. At McGill, students cannot submit their own participation for recognition.
Note: The deadline to submit CCR participation (activities that happened before July 1, 2025) has passed. No new CCR-eligible activities or participation can be added. Activities taking place on July 1, 2025, or after must meet the new SER eligibility guidelines.
Legacy Co-Curricular Record Data
The SER replaced McGill's Co-Curricular Record (CCR), which was in operation from 2012 to 2025.
- All students who had a CCR and were active in Fall 2025 can see their legacy CCR data on their SER, even if it does not meet the new eligibility requirements.
- Alumni can request their historical CCR directly from the Career Planning Service.
Work-Integrated Learning (WIL)
Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) encompasses both curricular and co-curricular opportunities in which students apply their academic knowledge in practical settings. Traditionally, WIL includes for-credit experiences such as internships, field placements, and co-op work terms. However, McGill's SER also recognizes non-credit (co-curricular) opportunities where students collaborate with various industry partners—including for-profit, government, and non-profit organizations—on practical projects.
These non-credit WIL experiences vary widely, from micro experiential placements to music students' participation in summer performance festivals. These opportunities provide valuable hands-on experience and professional development, even though they are generally unpaid.
WIL experiences involve partnerships between academic institutions, host organizations, and students, focusing on employability, agency, knowledge and skill mobility, and lifelong learning.
