Overview

The Career Planning Service (CaPS) can verify experiences that appear on a student's Student Experience Record (SER) for the purposes of applications, reference checks, employment screening, professional programs, internships, scholarships, or further studies.

For alumni whose activities were recorded on the former Co-Curricular Record (CCR), CaPS can also verify experiences that appear on their CCR.

Before you submit a request

Before requesting experience verification, review your SER or CCR to ensure that the experience appears on your record and to review the dates and description.

Current students and recent alumni can view their SER on myFuture. See our Student How-to Guides & Videos for instructions.

Alumni: CCRs are no longer available online. To review your CCR before submitting a verification request, see Co-Curricular Record for instructions on requesting a copy.

How to request experience verification

Complete the CCR/SER Verifier Request Form and include the names of all organizations, institutions, employers, or programs that may contact us regarding your verification request.

What we can verify

We can verify only experiences that are officially recorded on your Student Experience Record (SER) or, for alumni, on the former Co-Curricular Record (CCR).

When submitting applications, ensure that the information you provide matches the information recorded on your SER or CCR, including:

  • Position or activity title
  • McGill unit or student organization name
  • Dates of participation
  • Time commitment or hours, where applicable

What we cannot verify

We cannot verify:

  • Experiences that do not appear on your SER or CCR
  • Details that are not recorded on your SER or CCR
  • Information that differs from what is officially recorded

For example, if a specific number of hours is not listed on your SER or CCR, we cannot verify that number for an employer or institution.
