Mitacs programs

Mitacs aims to connect companies, government and academia by coordinating collaborative industry-university research projects.  Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows learn how to apply their specialized expertise to business research challenges through a suite of paid internship opportunities.

Mitacs offers the following programs:

  • Accelerate
Canada’s premiere research internship program providing interns with the opportunity to transfer their skills from theory to real-world application, while companies gain a competitive advantage by accessing high-quality research expertise. Interns spend approximately half of the time on-site with the industry partner; the remainder is spent at the university advancing the research under the guidance of a faculty supervisor.
  • Elevate
Provides a foundation of cutting-edge research, business, entrepreneurship and scientific management skills to newly-minted PhDs while giving companies access to a highly qualified uniquely trained pool of talent.
  • Globalink
Take your research abroad with Mitacs Globalink. Globalink offers travel funding between Canada and several international partners. Note that for this program, you require GPS approval before submitting to Mitacs, regardless if you are inbound or outbound. See here for more details.
  • Training
Mitacs Training is Canada’s only comprehensive program providing business-ready skills to up and coming researchers. Step trains graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in essential interpersonal, project management and entrepreneurial skills required for them to succeed in their future career.
  • Converge
Turn your research success into an R&D management career, with training and partnerships that make the most of your skills. Funding is available for all disciplines.
  • Business Strategy Internship
Collaborate with companies and your academic supervisor on developing innovative projects to improve products, business models and services offered by the company.
