Meet 2021 Global Health Scholar Mehrshad Bakhshi

McGill Global Health Scholar Mehrshad Bakhshi is a Medical student working with Surgery Professor Dr. Evan Wong.

Mehrshad Bakhshi is a Medical student and McGill Global Health Scholar supported by The Medicine Class of 1965 International Health Student Fund. He is working with Dr. Evan Wong on Improving the Quality of Trauma and Acute Surgical Care in Nunavik: Quantifying the Burden of Injury and Illness.

“I am currently working on a project on trauma and acute surgical care in Nunavik with my supervisor and with the help of a general surgery resident. My current role is mainly to do chart reviews of medical records remotely for this project.

The most surprising aspect of the internship so far has been the fact that there is a great lack of research available on Indigenous populations. I am very excited to work with this population.”

McGill University is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous Peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg Nations. McGill honours, recognizes, and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which peoples of the world now gather. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous Peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
