As part of this year’s Spring Convocation celebrations, McGill University will confer honorary degrees upon ten inspirational individuals, five of whom are from Quebec.
Leaders in their respective fields, these honorary doctorates stand as examples of creativity, compassion, dedication, service, and a pioneering spirit. They represent a diverse array of leaders whose contributions span disciplines, industries, and continents.

Today, The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) announced 102 new Fellows and 54 new Members of the College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists. As part of its ongoing commitment to fighting climate change, McGill University’s result-oriented strategy has accelerated the effective decarbonization of its investment, and further reduced its exposure to large users of oil, gas, and coal, as well as fossil fuel producers. Six students from across Canada have been named recipients of the country’s largest undergraduate scholarship program, Schulich Leader Scholarships, and will begin their studies this September, in McGill’s bicentennial year.
Out of a pool of 350,000 potential candidates across Canada, 1,400 students were nominated. Given the unprecedented circumstances associated with the pandemic, for the second consecutive year, the Schulich Foundation awarded an additional 50 scholarships for a total of 100 in recognition of the challenges facing students and their families.

A collaborative initiative between McGill’s Desautels Faculty of Management and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the GCHM program is designed to train physicians and other healthcare professionals in the skills needed to make effective decisions and succeed in leadership roles.
Today Genome Quebec announced the results of its Genomic Integration Program, Human Health Stream competition. Five McGill teams from a diverse array of fields were awarded funds, totaling nearly $1 million. One of the defining features of this program is the requirement that institutional applicants must also have an external non-academic partner, thus supporting program goals of stimulating the Quebec economy and encouraging the use of genomic technologies in the Quebec healthcare system.
