A Business Continuity Plan is like an organization’s safety net. It helps prepare for and mitigate against disruptions, such as those caused by natural hazards, technological hazards, human-caused hazards, supply chain problems or loss of personnel.

May 6: Introduction to EP Week
This week is Emergency Preparedness Week! Learn how you can prepare for emergencies and also how McGill’s OEM team prepares for emergencies!
Everyone has a role to play in an emergency. Emergency Preparedness Week is an opportunity for you to take action to ensure you are prepared to protect yourself and your community during an emergency.
This year, the theme is Be Prepared. Know Your Risks. The intent of the theme is to encourage Canadians to understand the risks in their area and learn what actions they can take to protect themselves and their families.
EP Week encourages Canadians to take three simple steps to become better prepared to face a range of emergencies:
Knowing the risks specific to your area can help you prepare for emergencies. In Montreal, there are risks of contamination/shortage of drinking water, earthquakes, flooding, hazardous materials, major winter storms, periods of intense cold, severe thunderstorms and more.

May 9: How to make a personal emergency plan & preparedness kit
You can also prepare for emergencies by making a plan and preparedness kit! When emergencies happen, having a plan in place is the best way to respond quickly and protect yourself! You can also prepare by gathering some basic supplies you may need during an emergency. Both are easy to do - to get started, visit the Government of Canada's Get Prepared Page!
May 10: Introduction to the Office of Emergency Management (OEM)
The Office of Emergency Management is responsible for developing and implementing programs and standards for emergency management at McGill, including the University Emergency Management Plan. We maintain the university’s emergency notification system and Emergency Operations Centre and work with units across campus to ensure coordinated incident response.
