Social Insurance Number

A Social Insurance Number (SIN) is required to work in Canada. Some banking institutions also require a SIN to open an account. Staff members are advised to obtain a SIN for themselves and all family members. Documents presented must be originals, in English or French, translated if necessary, and supporting documents may be required. Consult Service Canada and SIN - What you need before you apply.

Staff members on a Temporary Work Permit must renew their SIN following receipt of a new Temporary Work Permit.
