Message from the Interim Principal and Vice-Chancellor

It is a great privilege to extend my warmest welcome and to congratulate you on joining the distinguished McGill faculty. I am certain that with your many talents and the resources of McGill, you will continue to build successful research and teaching careers. I am sure that your academic work at McGill will lead to new knowledge and discoveries; it will enrich the educational experiences of our exceptional students at all levels; and, I truly hope it will prove to be personally, as well as professionally, satisfying.

McGill has a well-deserved reputation as an excellent, research-intensive, student-centred, publicly-funded university. We have almost forty thousand students, faculty, and staff, and more than 190,000 active alumni worldwide. Our University is also among North America’s most culturally and internationally diverse communities. McGill has an unwavering commitment to quality and to academic freedom.

This “New Faculty Guidebook” has been designed to help acquaint you with your new surroundings. I hope that you will find it a useful resource, one that eases your transition to McGill, Montreal, and Quebec. Please accept my best wishes as you begin this next phase of your career.
