Course Registration for Incoming Exchange Students

Please read all sections carefully before making your course selection.

Note that registration to Management courses will be, for the majority, done manually.

General information

Exchange students are expected to follow the majority of their courses within the Desautels Faculty of Management. However, students are permitted a maximum of 1 or 2 courses per term in other Faculties (Arts, Science), provided those Faculties have no objections.

For more information on Management courses, consult our Areas of Study page. For courses offered in other faculties, consult our Non-Management Elective page.

Enrollment is often subject to class size limitations. Some Faculties have waitlists, for which you can use for the non-mgmt courses if the course is full and the waitlist still has space. There are no waitlists for management courses.

Please note that we cannot guarantee enrollment in any course; you must be flexible with your course selection.

Course load

Full-time = 15 McGill credits Equivalent to 30 ECTS, usually 5 courses
Full-time = 12 McGill credits Equivalent to 24 ECTS, if home university permits
Less than 12 credits, or more than 15 credits NOT PERMITTED
Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory option NOT PERMITTED

Registration

Students must register for courses in other Faculties on their own using Minerva, starting June 7, 2024. Please make sure you verify course pre-requisites by clicking on the courses CRN's on Minerva. Other Faculties do not necessarily prevent registration if you do not have the pre-requisites (i.e. Economics, Political Sciences, etc). In Management, we adhere to pre-requisites and we will not permit you in a course if we believe you have not taken the pre-requisite or its equivalent back home.

Class Schedule on Minerva

View the Class Schedule for all course sections, including enrollment information.

To obtain the full list of courses, select the term (i.e. Fall 2023) and then the Faculty only (i.e. Desautels Faculty of Management).

  • Section numbers (Sec) are important, as you MUST attend the section you are registered for.

  • Please be attentive to the remaining capacity (Rem) - courses in the negative numbers, such as -3, -4, -5, means the section is close to or at max capacity, therefore you may not be added to the section.

How to register for Management courses

In order to get registered for your Management courses, please follow these steps:

  1. Complete the Incoming Student Exchange - Course Registration webform (you must login with your McGill email and password). You will be advised by email when the form is open.
  2. You must attach a PDF copy of your complete university transcript (including the courses that are in progress), so we can verify that you have completed the prerequisite course where necessary.
  3. Register for non-management courses offered in other Faculties (i.e. ECON, POLI, COMP, etc) by using Minerva. Registration will open on June 7, 2024.

Important notes:

  • Please read the instructions carefully at the top of the webform.
  • Ensure to select the correct term when searching for courses.
  • Due to high course demand, exchange students are allowed a maximum of 2 courses in each subject area per term.
  • The processing of the registration forms could take several weeks to be finalized.
  • Registration will be ongoing until the end of the add/drop period. *

* There is a Course Change (Add/Drop) Period during both the Fall and the Winter terms. This allows you to "shop around" for courses which you may be interested in taking but have not registered for. Contact us if you need to change your registration.

Please look at the many courses that are still open. Many of you come here based on previous students’ course approvals and requests, but we have many courses in different areas to offer you, that you may not be aware of. There are new courses taught under Topics numbers, they look like MGPO 434, FINE 434, etc.

If you must obtain detailed course outlines because your university has not yet approved them, please contact the bcom.mgmt [at] mcgill.ca (BCom Office). We will be happy to send the information directly to you and your university contact.
