Do you know what you would like to do, but are unsure of how to get the position that you would like? Theresa Rowat will be addressing these issues, and providing suggestions for what steps to take to achieve your professional archives-related goals. Highly recommended for all interested archives students, whether you are graduating this year or next!

Thursday April 24, 2008 - Colloquium with speaker Terry Cook - 10:00am-4:30pm

The McGill Chapter of the ACA would like to invite interested students to participate in a Student Colloquium at the McGill University School of Information Studies.

The symposium topics will be:

  • "The Importance of Developing Professional Competencies"
  • "Tradition to Innovation: Archival Principles Today"

Our plenary speaker will be Terry Cook, whose leadership led to the re-engineering of the government records disposition program at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) in 2002-04. The framework of accountability has grown since the launch of Cook's macroappraisal program at the (former) National Archives of Canada in 1990-1.

The plenary title is "Mindless Ox, Efficient Vacuum Cleaner, Compliant Handmaiden, or Invisible Ghost: Towards a New Role for Archivists in the Twenty-First Century"
