Free Peer Partnership Mentor Program will be offered in 2017!
The SIS students at McGill & the Public Libraries Section of the ABQLA are pleased to invite you to participate in the 2017/2018 Professional Partnering Program (PPP).
The PPP is a flexible mentoring program that connects students in McGill's School of Information Studies with information professionals with similar professional interests. If you are interested in participating, please fill out this form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfssMWDf3OkQn1ewb0DVscEV_g3ZrjFAStzv7XofZT_7Mm0-Q/viewform) by Friday, September 22nd.
A 5 à 7 will take place on October 4th at the SIS Mansion. You will be notified of your partner by email, in case you can't attend the event.
Please contact Maria at maria.ressina [at] gmail.com for more information.
What is the time commitment?
There is no specific time commitment from participants. The program will begin with a 5 à 7 to introduce participants to each other; the level of communication and specific activities will be determined by the pair. Activities can include job shadowing, regular e-mail correspondence, job-seeking advice and introductions to other professionals.
Message from the President
The Association des Bibliothécaires du Québec/Quebec Library Association is the province’s go-to association for library and information professionals. Hosting a variety of networking, educational, online events and an annual conference, ABQLA helps librarians and related professionals to develop their careers and meet other passionate people. They help McGill students get more connected to the Montreal and Quebec library scene, whether for short term while in school or with a long-term career goal in mind. ABQLA is also an excellent gateway to other provincial library associations, providing you with valuable experience which will help you wherever your career might take you, not just Quebec.
At the McGill Student Chapter, we collaborate with our parent association to offer SIS students opportunities to meet with real professionals in the field, including a mentorship program, and promote ABQLA events which SIS students can usually attend for free. We also plan smaller social events for SIS students, like excursions to renowned libraries and murder mystery nights, where they can take a break from their schoolwork and relax.
Best of all, membership to ABQLA is FREE for students and there is also an ABQLA scholarship which only members can apply to. You’re all more than welcome to check out ABQLA’s website at http://www.abqla.qc.ca
We can’t wait to meet all of you this fall,
President, ABQLA Student Chapter
