This fellowship to postdoctoral candidates is made possible through the generous donation of funds from the Gloria Baylis Foundation to support scholars in the SBMS whose research focuses on the creation and application of scientific and technological knowledge in engineering, science and medicine to produce technologies, devices and tools that will improve human healthcare delivery and treatment of disease.
APPLICATION DEADLINE AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS
The deadline for applications is 4:00 PM on July 28, 2025. Candidates will be informed of the results of the competition by August 29, 2025.
ELIGIBILITY
The Richard Baylis Innovation Fellowship in the Biomedical Sciences is open to highly qualified postdoctoral trainees in the SBMS who are registered full-time at McGill University at the time the fellowship begins on September 1, 2025 in one of the following units of the SBMS: Anatomy and Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Human Genetics, Microbiology and Immunology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Physiology, The Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Institute and the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Institute of Genomic Medicine.
- Postdoctoral trainees currently being recruited to the SBMS but not yet registered at McGill may apply to the competition but must be registered full-time at McGill at the start of the award.
- Successful applicants must be registered at McGill University for the duration of the award.
- The Primary Supervisor must hold a McGill primary appointment or joint appointment within one of the units in the SBMS. Associate membership of the Primary Supervisor with an SBMS unit does not confer eligibility.
- Candidates who already hold post-doctoral awards ≥ $30K are not eligible.

NUMBER OF FELLOWSHIPS
A supervisor cannot have more than one applicant applying for the Richard Baylis Innovation Fellowship in the Biomedical Sciences. One fellowship per year will be awarded.
VALUE AND DURATION OF SUPPORT
The Richard Baylis Innovation Fellowship in the Biomedical Sciences is tenable for one year starting September 1, 2025. The Gloria Baylis Foundation contribution is $40,000 for postdoctoral trainees. Supervisors are expected to supplement funded applicants such that the postdoctoral trainees are receiving the required McGill-mandated funding.
