Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Concentration

McGill University's Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Concentration is one of two such training programs in the province of Quebec; and only one of two training programs in all of Canada. In existence since 2004, this concentration received full a 5-year program accreditation by the Ordre des Infirmières et Infirmiers du Québec/Collège des Médecins du Québec in 2018.

The Neonatal Concentration will prepare you for a multifaceted role as a neonatal nurse practitioner in ambulatory, intermediate, acute and critical care settings where you will provide and/or collaborate in the provision of services to meet the healthcare needs of neonates and their families. The focus is the development of expert clinical competence, enabling you to function confidently as an educator, consultant, collaborator, and leader. All of these areas are addressed within the curriculum.

In Québec, the neonatal NP is called Infirmière praticienne spécialisée en néonatalogie (IPSNN). For additional information on the Neonatal NP scope of practice, visit the OIIQ’s Pratique clinique de l’infirmière praticienne spécialisée en néonatalogie document (available in French).

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO PROSPECTIVE NEONATAL NP STUDENTS:
Please note that McGill University, Ingram School of Nursing, will not be opening admissions for Fall 2022 for the Neonatal NP concentration. The next admissions, into this concentration, will be for Fall 2023, with the admission application process opening in late September 2022. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us should you have any questions regarding the Neonatal NP concentration.
