Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program

The aim of the Pediatric Concentration is to prepare the pediatric nurse practitioner for the multifaceted role of nurse practitioner in ambulatory, intermediate, acute and critical care settings. The pediatric nurse practitioner is prepared to provide and/or collaborate in the provision of services designed to deal with the health care needs of children 0 to 18 years that have acute, complex issues requiring secondary and tertiary care provided in the associated settings. The focus is the development of expert clinical competence. The ability to function in a teaching, consultation, liaison, and leadership capacity is essential to the development of clinical expertise. These areas are addressed within the curriculum. In Québec, the pediatric NP role corresponds with the title Infirmière praticienne spécialisée en soins pédiatriques (IPSSP).

For additional information on the Pediatric NP scope of practice, visit the OIIQ’s Pratique clinique de l’infirmière praticienne spécialisée en soins pédiatriques document (available in French).

The McGill Ingram School of Nursing Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Concentration is one of two training programs available in the province of Québec. This program started in September 2017 with the support of the Ordre des Infirmières et Infirmiers du Québec and the Collège des Médecins du Québec.
