About the Steinberg Centre:

The Steinberg Center for Simulation and Interactive Learning is an inter-professional center of excellence using medical simulation to enhance the skills of health care professionals through education, research, evaluation and innovation, thereby improving patient safety and the quality of care.

The Center combines training techniques from high-risk professions in aviation and emergency response with the latest medical simulation technologies. Fully integrated into McGill's professional programs, the Center provides the next generation of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists with hands-on training in difficult and potentially dangerous procedures without risk to patients. It also promotes the importance of teamwork in health care delivery.

Program Offering:

Fellows will be invited to attend the Simnovate international medical simulation conference from May 5-6th, 2016. The conference gathers medical professionals interested in discussing the current and future state of simulation, innovation, and education in several areas of health care – patient safety, pervasive learning, medical technology, and global health. Fellows will be able to interact and network with professionals. They will then stay in Montreal for two additional weeks, observing simulation activities offered at the Steinberg Center for Simulation and Interactive Learning at McGill University. Depending on individual interest, they will also have the opportunity to meet with global health professionals in the Faculty of Medicine.

Opportunities for the Fellows will include*:

  • Overview of the Steinberg Center for Simulation and Interactive Learning and the facilities it offers, research initiatives etc.
  • Observations of a range of simulation-based trainings run by the center (e.g.  ultrasound simulation training, advanced life support trainings)
  • Networking and mentorship opportunities with global health experts in fellow’s area(s) of interest

*Depending on the individual interests of the fellow, a customized program will be developed

McGill University is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous Peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg Nations. McGill honours, recognizes, and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which peoples of the world now gather. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous Peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
