Undergraduate Advising Services
Michelle Maillet, the Department's Undergraduate Advisor, can help you plan your degree. She is available to answer your questions by advisor.geog [at] mcgill.ca (email), by virtual appointment, or in-person office hours.
Michelle is responsible for all undergraduate programs that fall under the Department of Geography (including majors, minors, honours, joint honours, and Interfaculty programs). She holds a wealth of knowledge about navigating the McGill bureaucracy and can help you be strategic with your undergraduate studies. Do not hesitate to contact her for any Geography-related or general questions that you may have. If she is not the right person to answer your question, she can connect you with the appropriate person/office/service.

Notice to students: Course registration for 2025-2026Due to the large volume of emails that advisors receive at the opening of course registration period for returning and new students, please note that responses may take some time. Virtual appointments during this period will be limited to 15 minutes per student, however availability is limited due to time constraints and other tasks. If no appointments are available, please check the booking site again in a few days, or send your questions over email. You may also consider dropping by Michelle's office during weekly office hours. Do not email to ask for a virtual meeting if none are available on the booking site. Further information about these services can be found on the page below. Pro tip: Use the Minerva Class Search menu found under the "Student" menu > "Registration" Menu to access full details about courses offered. Use the "Advanced search" function, select a discipline while leaving all other fields blank and click on "Get course sections" for complete expanded details on all classes offered by the unit in a single page. Click on the course CRN to view the course description, pre-requisites and restrictions. Instructors assigned to courses are listed in this menu and Professors' emails can be found in their profiles on Departmental website "People" pages. Minerva Waitlists will be activated in late June on many popular Geography classes. Classes that have a lecture and lab component will not have waitlists however as the system does not function for these courses. Access this helpful guide for more information about the waitlist system. If a class is full and has no waitlist, please keep checking Minerva actively for spaces freeing up in the course so that you may register. |

Access the degree planning resources from our two Departmental student associations, the McGill Undergraduate Geography Society (MUGS) and the Student Association of Sustainability, Science and Society (SASSS) for helpful guidance from your peers to make the best of your time at McGill. You may use these resources for degree planning purposes, but keep in mind that you should always verify your degree requirements and degree plan with your Department and Faculty-level Advisors to ensure that your plan is consistent with Faculty policies and overall degree requirements needed to graduate.

Arts Office of Advising and Student Information Services (OASIS)
Faculty Advisors (or Degree Advisors) oversee students' overall degree requirements and manage Faculty-level degree policies including Exchanges and Study Away as well as Degree transfers. Access your Faculty's advising office website to learn more about Faculty advising services and Faculty policies that apply to your degree. SOUSA supports BSc and BA&Sc degree students, while OASIS supports BA degree students.

The Science Internship & Field Studies Office promotes field studies and internships to interested students seeking hands-on experience. The office coordinates the field study semesters offered through the Faculty of Science and open to all degree students, and provides valuable information on the Science Internship program for B.Sc. and B.A.&Sc. degree students.

McGill Policy on Assessment of Student Learning
McGill Policy on Assessment of Student Learning (PASL)
The Policy on Assessment of Student Learning (PASL) is intended to provide a framework for assessment practices at McGill. The new principles-based Policy has replaced the former University Student Assessment Policy (USAP) as of Fall 2024. PASL applies to all undergraduate and graduate courses for which credit is earned and students receive a final grade on an official McGill transcript.
