Doctors and students working together

Program Description

Overview

This six-period (24-week) pilot program is designed to ease residents’ transition to independent practice. Residents will enrich and consolidate their existing skills while gaining new knowledge and skills in leadership, scholarship, and innovative approaches to care delivery:

  • Longitudinal curriculum mirrors the schedule of a practicing physician.

  • Academic full days (AFDs) occur every two weeks (CPD credits available).

  • Formal teaching is centred around leadership, scholarship, and the consolidation of clinical skills

  • A Clinical Teaching and Academic Medicine component provides trainees with formal exposure to clinical educational techniques, critical appraisal, teaching, transition-to-practice topics, and more.

  • Clinical experiences include continuity of care clinics; home care or long-term care; Emergency Medicine, Hospitalist Medicine, or Palliative Care, with ample flexibility for residents to pursue their own interests.

  • Each R2Plus resident will enjoy the best of both worlds: the autonomy of near-independent practice and the reassurance of dedicated mentorship.
