Components and Structure
Program Components
The R2Plus curriculum comprises the following components:
- Clinical Teaching and Academic Medicine
- Academic Full Days
- Family medicine clinics
- Half-day electives
- Home care or long-term care
- Weeklong selectives (emergency medicine, hospitalist medicine, or palliative care)
Program Structure
To ease the transition to practice, the R2Plus program has been designed to reflect the real-world schedules of working physicians.
Residents will therefore benefit from a practice based in the GMF-U while providing periodic weeklong coverage in hospital and providing home care or long-term care one half-day a week. In addition, residents will pursue their own interests during two weekly half-day elective slots. Components have been accorded time as follows:
- Clinical Teaching and Academic Medicine (2–3 half-days per week)
- Academic Full Days (one full day every two weeks)
- Family medicine clinics (3–4 half-days per week)
- Half-day electives (2 half-days per week)
- Home care or long-term care (one half-day per week)
- Weeklong selectives (4 one-week exposures to each of the two disciplines over the course of the six-month program)
