Quantitative fit testing uses a specialized machine to quantify ambient airborne particulates to measure the leakage of a respirator on the user. This will allow the machine to identify a fit factor to determine whether the respirator shape and size is appropriate for the user. EHS uses quantitative fit testing for reusable half-face and full-face respirators only. This course is not intended for those who require N95 fit testing.
Please review the following information and the registration steps below:
Target Audience: All staff and students who require the use of a reusable elastomeric respirator while performing activities at McGill University. This course provides Quantitative Fit Testing for reusable full-face and half-face respirators, using a machine called a PortaCount to measure the leakage into a respirator.
Duration: 2 hours (approximate)
Certification: Fit Test certificates are valid for up to 2 years. A hard copy, wallet sized certificate is provided to the participant.
Cost: $125 for an in-person Fit Test, payable by FOAPAL. Students must reach out to their department administration so that the department may provide the FOPAL directly to rpp.ehs [at] mcgill.ca.
Location: 3610 McTavish, room 430
Additional Information: In order to ensure a proper seal with the respirator, the user must be clean shaven and long hair must be tied back. Facial piercings and jewelry may also need to be removed.
Do not purchase any equipment prior to attending the Fit Test. EHS has 3M, Honeywell/North and MSA reusable respirator models available for fit testing. If you have a different make, it may not be possible to have your respirator fit-tested.
If applicable, bring your current respirator and any other Personal Protective Equipment you need to wear that might interfere with your respirator to the Fit Test session.
