McGill Smoking Policy

Smoking policy

The Policy concerning smoking at McGill University was adopted by McGill’s Board of Governors on December 12, 2017, and was reviewed in March 2023. Its objective is to promote and preserve the health and well-being of all members of the University community. The procedure concerning smoking at McGill includes more information and facilitates the implementation of the policy.

Smoking has been prohibited outside of designated smoking areas since May 1st, 2018 on the downtown and Macdonald campuses, as well as at the Gault Reserve. These areas are identified by signage.

Resources are available to members of the McGill community who wish to stop smoking, including coverage of certain smoking cessation products for staff. Students may contact the Student Wellness Hub
